The truth behind Metal Gear Solid!
Possible SPOILERS
Well, i've been playing it for a long while, and i must say that MGS is not exactly what i expected it to be. The game itself is nice, but i think it was PRETTY OVERRATED.
Graphically it is nice, it made a good usage of PSX resources, exploiting them to unsuspected levels (perhaps, the Ninja's Predator like cloaking device) but cinematics abuse A LOT of the motion blur/fake scene blur (and in an emulator, it makes it very very slow, or makes it impossible to be seen...) but well, in PSX i guess it was seen well, because of a Television (instead of the precise resolution of computer monitors, and PSX's true video memory...)
Soundwise is really outstanding, the spanish dubbing of it makes it you believe you are seeing a film (and in some moments, MGS is much more a film than a game)the music is also very well composed, and the whole envoironment is really well recreated. I liked it, in that meaning, the mixture between sound a graphics makes it be solid.
but in gameplay i have a complain. All right, the game has a lot of scenes, which, sometimes, makes the game rythm to break a little, i'd like to see more "open fights" than the normal "Keep hidden" scheme, and i don't mean i don't like it, but happens that these parts of the game uses to be very short (they're just an excuse for you to show you another cinematic scene, and after them, a fight against a boss)
The fights, on the other hand, are really well, though, bit hard, but challeging, and have variety, i also complain of the perspective of the game itself, but after thinknig it a little, i realize that it is the same perspective that featured the original MG games, from the top point of view. It would have been pretty easy to make it to look like Oni, perhaps, and call it Metal Gear Solid, but, simply, it would not be the same. Metal Gear is to be seen from the top, and that's what you'll find on almost all MG games (but MGS3 maybe, i haven't played it)
So, i like it a lot. But i think it's very overrated. Point to Wiseman, Xenogears is still the best of PS XD, oh well, maybe not

I never really cared for the MGS games but that was probably because the last time I played one I was around 11.
Currently playing Halo 2.

Gah.... the stealth part is the main part of the game. Most of the time between bosses is at least around an hour so. And yes,t he game is story motivated, but that doesn't detract from the excellent gameplay.
And you can't take pooints from a stealth game for wanting more action

Im still neglecting Halo 2. Once its out of your system, its a lot easier to say no.
Currently playing Devil May Cry 3 full on. Ive just gotten past Mission 15, and despite previous gripes with the repitivity of gameplay, im now hooked. I certainly didnt see that plot twist coming, and the cut-scenes are simply jaw-dropping. On the negative side, ive come across a fair amount of lag when playing on 60Hz on some missions (it makes no difference whether i play it through the DVD or HDD), and its sometimes painful. 50Hz is fine however. Many other european gamers have encountered this problem, so i guess i can blame it on sloppy programming and testing.
As for Metal gear Solid not having enough action; as Xel said, thats not really what its about. I much prefer stealth games to action games (like DMC3), since theres more srategy and patience involved. Its also a bit more realistic that way; your infiltrating a terrorist organizations base, not a demons lair. Realistically, it should be game over when they see you just once. You'll get your fair dose of action when the story meets its climax though, i'll promise you that.

Yeah, don't remind me too much... i've already beaten it (and got me the Bandana Item XD) and what i can say is that it is too much like a film, including his half or three quarter of an hour ending (it is that DAMM LONG!)
To tell the truth, i complain that that game is so short! i agree that if you're caught at a terrorist's base, your dead, but well, also, a 15 meters high robot doesn't kill you instantly when he stomps over you, so, let's just think this is a game, and is for fun. Anyway, i think it's just too short. but i guess also that there are tons of things to discover playing it again and again, though, is not the same as playing it for the first time.
too short...
